About the Museum
The history of the Lomakov Museum began with a family passion for automotive history. In 1959, Alexander Alekseevich Lomakov began restoring historic automobiles, establishing the foundation of a collection that would later be continued by his son, Dmitry Lomakov. Among his notable restorations was a 1916 Rolls-Royce associated with Vladimir Lenin. In 1987, Dmitry Lomakov founded the Lomakov Museum of Oldtimer Cars and Motorcycles in Moscow. What began as a family collection developed into a museum dedicated to preserving historic vehicles and making them accessible to the public.

The Field Guide concept
An editorial field guide exploring the historic vehicles of the Lomakov Museum of Oldtimer Cars and Motorcycles in Moscow. Through archival photographs, technical diagrams, engineering details, and historical research, the publication invites readers to look beyond the exterior and discover the ideas, materials, and mechanisms that shaped early automobiles. The tall, narrow 100×210 mm format supports the idea of a compact, easy-to-carry field guide while visiting the museum.

The warm rust-brown accent colour comes from the rusty surfaces visible on some historic vehicles in the Lomakov Museum photographs. The rusty titles also contrast with black typography and archival monochrome photography.
The typography combines StencilStd for the cover title, Trolleybus Mono for section headings, Bahnschrift for body text and captions, and BaseGrotesk Light for technical specifications.
