About me
Hi, I’m Alisa.
I’m a communication designer from Saint Petersburg, and I can’t design on vibes alone: before making anything, I dig into the subject, the people and the field. I like projects you can fall into, layer after layer.
I have 3 main fields of interest that I designed projects for:
— for nature
— for culture
— for people

For nature
(1)
The Naturalist

ROLE: research, concept, content, layout
PREMISE: A magazine about nature and the people who study it. I was looking for a way to give a voice to those who notice nature: botanists, herbarium keepers, mushroom pickers.
RESULT: I found them in my own city and on eco-trails near Saint Petersburg. So the magazine became a field notebook: kraft paper, engravings and a cover from Linnaeus.
(2)
MOSS
ROLE: idea, market and audience research, concept, design system, product design
PREMISE: A skincare brand made from fresh moss. I was looking for a way to make «natural» honest, reusable and practical packaging.
RESULT: Moss became both the ingredient and the image: its silhouettes on refillable packaging made with materials that could be reused many times.
(3)
The Noma Guide to Fermentation
ROLE: idea, working with the content, layout
PREMISE: A cookbook on fermentation. I was looking for a book that works in a real kitchen, where your hands are wet and sticky, and a way you can look up a recipe not from a large book sitting on the counter next to your cooking area
RESULT: Book comes apart: recipe cards slide off the rings and go to the table. Reader can place recipe card on the fridge or the wall, and more over make separate recipes card set on the ring
For culture
(4)
Temple of Flesh
ROLE: idea, image research, analysis, text, layout
PREMISE: A visual study of sport in fine art. I wanted to understand why people have shown the athletic body the same way for thousands of years.
RESULT: from rock carvings to the 20th century. So the book became a temple: black pages, sculptures shown like relics, one timeline at the end.
(5)
Private View catalog
ROLE: idea, analysis, concept, layout
PREMISE: A catalogue for an exhibition by the American artist and researcher Julia Weist. An artist that works with federal archives, and uses them as an art form
RESULT: So the catalogue became an archive: grey folders, binders and an ID number for every work.
