The height of this tower is measured not in meters, but in time. According to Ingush tradition, a defensive tower was built in exactly one year: from the first stone of the foundation to the keystone at the apex. If a year can be lived by building a tower, then the tower can be read as a year lived. It grows from bottom to top, just as the months pass, and on its blocks are the master’s life events, as if carved into stone by human hands. The keystone crowns the tower—the day the year was completed.
