The zine recounts a trip to Sosnovy Bor, the hometown of the lyrical heroine, though memories of it have faded. It is a story about the connection to one’s homeland, a childhood mystery, and memory.

Sosnovy Bor was built in 1967 from red brick. Here, the red of the streets and the pines converge, making the technique of layering a bright pattern over the city panorama a metaphor for memory.

The streetscape is rendered using loose materials and pencils, creating a space of more ambiguous memories—a deep layer of memory positioned beneath the tracing paper. The zine unifies the motif of the road: the train tracks on which the heroine arrives graphically align with the story’s resolution, where the gaze falls upon the top of a pine tree. The answer in the search for home becomes as distant as the edge of the road or the treetop, yet no less beautiful, especially if red is a favorite color.
