Relevance
The modern metropolis deprives people of the right to privacy and to slow down—all open spaces, glass facades, and relentless rhythm. In response to this overstimulation, there is a growing cultural demand for the ability to create a protective microclimate around oneself. The relevance lies in the desire to craft a personal space that embodies the philosophy of the Southern siesta and insulates one from the urban environment.
Concept
The collection explores the idea of personal refuge within the space of the modern metropolis. The starting point is the eaves of beach umbrellas and canopies—architectural forms that create a boundary for the individual between open space and protected shade. Outerwear reinterprets the plasticity of the canopy through exaggerated volume, protruding shoulders, curved edges, and overhanging structures. Beneath this architectural shell, a second layer conveys the plasticity of the shadow cast upon sun-drenched sand. The contrast between rigid form and soft drapery unites protection and freedom.
