Concept for a sound library for student short films. The first collection, «Residential Building, ” will combine the atmosphere of the location and individual actions to capture the sound of a single scene.
The Problem
Project Hypothesis: Students who script short films find it challenging to quickly assemble convincing sound for a residential setting. For a single scene, steps, a door, an elevator, and background noise are required. If the recordings don’t match acoustically, the editor must spend a long time aligning them with one another.
Solution
«Hearable» is a sound library organized by location. Each set contains ambient sounds and individual actions recorded in the same space. The user selects the desired location, listens to examples, and downloads the set for their scene. Similar recording conditions help the sounds blend cohesively.
Format
Digital product: Thematic sound packs in WAV format available on a website with pre-download listening. Each recording will have a clear title and a description of the recording conditions.
Planned model: Free samples and a one-time purchase of the complete pack. The package will include guidelines for using the sounds in films. The first pack is «Residential Building.»
First intake: «Residential House»
The pilot set will include the atmosphere of the entrance hall and courtyard, footsteps on the stairs, the front door, and the elevator’s operation. This will allow for the assembly of a short scene depicting the hero returning home. First, I plan to record a small selection and provide it to the students for assembling a test scene. I will check which sounds are missing and how convenient it is to find the desired recording. Based on these results, I will refine the set composition.
