Concept
SNOOZE — a series of ceramic incense holders shaped like stylized dogs. The project explores how the familiar image of a pet can transform into a functional piece of interior design. The design is rooted in soft, rounded forms, simplified proportions, and expressive poses. The incense stick becomes an integral part of the composition rather than a separate accessory. The pieces are created using the slip-casting method with a plaster mold. A unified sculptural base allows for a small, limited-edition run, enabling experimentation with color, glaze, and decorative elements.

Figure Sketches
Materials and Fabrication

The manufacturing process begins with creating an initial model of the figurine, which is then used to create a plaster mold. This mold allows the object to be reproduced multiple times while preserving its form and proportions.Next, ceramic casts are created using the slip casting method. After removal from the mold, the pieces undergo manual finishing, drying, and the first firing. In the subsequent stage, the figurines are painted with ceramic pigments and coated with a transparent, glossy glaze. A second firing sets the decoration and imparts smoothness and shine to the surface.Using a single plaster mold allows for the creation of a small, artisanal run, where the pieces retain a general form but may vary in color and painting.
Dimensions
The estimated dimensions of the ceramic figurine after firing are 130×90×75 mm (length x width x height).
Its compact size and rounded shape allow the object to be used both as an interior decorative element and as a stand for short aromatic sticks, measuring 10–15 cm.
The figurine is accompanied by a separate ceramic dish for ash collection. The dimensions of the original model will be adjusted to account for the shrinkage of the chosen ceramic body during drying and firing.
All pieces in the limited edition maintain identical dimensions and proportions, differing only in color and decorative painting.
What lies ahead?
At this stage, the primary model of the ceramic figurine, rendered in a brown and cream color palette, has been developed. It will serve as the basis for a future limited-edition run. Further plans include creating a working plaster mold and commencing production using the slip casting method. Special attention will be paid to design variation: while maintaining a unified form, each figurine will receive its own unique color scheme and decorative painting. The final phase will involve producing a series of ceramic incense holders, unified by a common shape yet distinguished by individual ornamentation.
Potential options for future print run design.
