When we are young, we aren’t asked for permission to film, we don’t consider leaving digital footprints, and we don’t think about how video documentation might affect our lives and memories. I often wonder why, when rewatching my personal archive, I am met with feelings of discomfort, shame, awkwardness, and silliness. As children, we don’t curate our image; we have no self-censorship. In this instance, the feeling of shame stems from the realization that we lack control over our captured self. As I began to explore this topic, I discovered that I wasn’t the only one experiencing such feelings. By combining the stories of acquaintances, I am compiling an archive of «collective awkwardness.» I work with my own archival records and the memories of others regarding their archives.
