Description
Undertow — an atmospheric electronic track situated at the intersection of ambient and melodic electronic music. Its foundation is built upon multilayered synthesizer textures that immerse the listener in a fluid, hypnotic soundscape.
History of the Name
The name Undertow translates from English as «undercurrent”—the hidden movement of water beneath the sea’s surface. My composition began with Frédéric Chopin’s famous Étude No. 24 in C minor, known as „Ocean.“ Classical music, and Chopin’s harmonic language in particular, holds a special place in my creative work. I wanted to reimagine the musical material of the Romantic era through the lens of contemporary electronic music.
Single Concept
Undertow explores the interplay between academic musical tradition, synthetic sound, and the natural soundscape.
The composition utilizes three different synthesizers to create a multi-layered harmonic structure, along with the sound of the sea and percussion that establishes a pulse reminiscent of a repeating tide.
The combination of these elements creates a space where meditative qualities coexist with rhythmic energy. The natural noise becomes part of the musical fabric, while the synthesizer timbres recontextualize familiar harmonic material into an electronic form.
