The graphic series, «High Vantage, ” focuses on the phenomenon of the post-Soviet balcony as a liminal zone—a gap between the totalizing structure of the global metropolis and the subject’s fragile inner world. The balcony here functions as an existential console: it hangs suspended over urban emptiness, lacking a firm foundation, yet it is precisely in this „in-between“ space (between the street and the home) that the subject finds autonomy.
The home flora and private belongings transform the balcony into a micro-ecosystem—a quiet act of rebellion against the sterility and homogenization of the global city.
The project engages in a dialogue with Vladimir Papperny’s research, „Culture Two, ” capturing the clash between a rigid architectural framework and vital, pulsating everyday life. It reinterprets Walter Benjamin’s ideas, turning the balcony glazing into a lens through which the subject gazes into the cosmos, disregarding the dictates of the metropolis.
