Cosmè Tura was a 15th-century Italian painter and one of the founders of the Ferrara School of Quattrocento painting. Alongside Francesco del Cossa and Erasmo de’ Roberti, Tura played a key role in shaping the artistic tradition of Ferrara.

Tura’s work was primarily devoted to religious painting, featuring depictions of the Madonna, saints, and biblical scenes. His paintings are easily recognized for their bold compositional structure, deep, intense color palette, and dynamic lines. His innovative treatment of volume and spatial perspective anticipated the developments of the High Renaissance.
Among Tura’s masterpieces are The Annunciation and Saint Anthony of Padua, both preserved in European museums. His Portrait of a Young Man, possibly depicting a member of the d’Este family, is regarded as one of the earliest realistic portraits of the Italian Renaissance.
