01 — About Me

Hello, I’m Anastasia—a communication designer based in Saint Petersburg, currently studying at the HSE Art and Design School.

I work with visual identities, graphic systems, and illustration, exploring how research, culture, and conceptual thinking can shape meaningful design.I am interested in projects that combine a strong concept with a distinctive visual language.

02 — My Approach

My process moves through three stages:

01 / Discover Research the context, identify connections, and find what matters.02 / Interpret Turn observations and ideas into a clear visual concept.03 / Express Build a distinctive graphic language that communicates across different formats.

03 — Case Studies

Kineshma

A City’s Identity, Reimagined.Visual Identity / Souvenir Design / Cultural ResearchThe ChallengeTo create a contemporary souvenir identity for Kineshma, a historic Russian town, while preserving its local character and cultural heritage. The ApproachThe project began with interviews with local residents and visits to regional museums. Their memories, associations, and perceptions of the town formed the foundation for the visual concept. The SolutionI developed a flexible graphic system based on recognizable local symbols, letterforms, and a color palette inspired by the town’s atmosphere. The modular elements can be combined into patterns and adapted across various souvenir products. The OutcomeThe project won an award and was commercially implemented. It demonstrates how research-driven design can bridge cultural heritage with contemporary visual communication.

Task

To develop souvenir products for the city of Kineshma using a modern visual language. This project was created as part of the scientific and practical expedition «Revival, ” which is dedicated to supporting, developing, and drawing attention to the cultural and historical heritage of small towns in the Ivanovo Region.

Research

At the outset of the project, a sociological study was conducted by surveying the residents of Kineshma, with the goal of identifying the key elements that shape the city’s identity from the residents’ perspective. Additionally, field trips and excursions to regional museums were organized to immerse participants in the area’s historical context.

Respondents were also asked to name the colors and sensations associated with the city. Based on these responses, a palette was selected—muted yet sufficiently bright and modern—that conveys the sensations of calm, coziness, family, and the nature of the small homeland.

Logo

The logo is based on the city’s most recognizable symbols. The pictograms and silhouettes replicate the letterforms. The final versions of the logo incorporate a metaphor about the transformation of the area—from the first mention of Kineshma in 1504 to its acquisition of city status in 1777.

The variability of its elements allows for diverse patterning and style expansion across various souvenir media, while maintaining the convenience of developing the concept for future applications.
