Concept
Urban architecture is typically perceived as something permanent and unchanging. However, sunlight has the power to completely transform its appearance, highlighting some elements while obscuring others.
The core concept behind the photo series, «Architecture of Absence, ” is an investigation into the interplay between bright sunlight and deep geometric shadows cast upon the facades of historic Moscow buildings.
This high-contrast lighting dismantles conventional perceptions of architecture. Parts of the building dissolve into darkness, while the illuminated fragments gain a unique expressiveness. The shadows transform into independent geometric forms that overlay the existing architecture, thereby creating a new, ephemeral composition.
