This series is based on archived photographs available for free use. I manually remove most of the human figure, preserving isolated fragments of the body and the surrounding space. Digital content assignment here occurs through subtraction. The intervention disrupts the figure’s integrity, creating lacunae while maintaining specific indicators of its placement within the frame.
Attribution through deletion leaves the image open for further development, which can no longer be reduced to restoring the original scene. Material deformation continues to intervene, preserving the uncertainty of the connections between the remaining fragments.
