Concept
«Dopamine-boosting items» are growing increasingly popular, and this trend extends into interior design. We are accustomed to seeing mobiles as something for children—usually hanging in kids' rooms or over cribs. But why not transform the mobile into a complete interior decoration?
I often see rhetoric that claims: wood equals eco-friendly. However, in my project, I decided to convey a different idea. Recycling plastic is also a huge help to the environment, especially when that plastic can subsequently be used in art and can last a long time. The marine theme also serves as a reminder that plastic pollution of waterways is another issue that deserves attention.

Materials
For the hanging elements, polylactide was chosen. It cuts well with a laser, and it offers rich colors and gradients for texture. I decided not to blend different types of plastic because I wanted to keep my object recyclable in the future, which would be problematic with a mix of materials. The figures can simply be removed from the mobile and sent for recycling again if necessary.

For the mobile’s base, I chose a simple wooden hoop with a 25 cm diameter. To prevent the base from looking monotonous, I wrapped it with cotton cords, which also served as the suspension points for the elements.

The Creation Process

The production process occurs in several stages.
Concept—I created sketches for the mobile and future details, which I refined during the creation process.
Production—Next, I made the figures for the mobile by sending polylactic sheets to the laser cutter. However, to add a handmade feel and variation, I cut some details using a manicure tool and a suitable burr.
Mobile Assembly—After preparing the base, the assembly of the finished ornament will take place.
